Stolen in the UK and Recovered in the USA: A Pair of Geo. Wetherbee Paintings

Aug 6, 2007

TA pair of paintings by George Wetherbee were stolen between 2003-2005 when thieves conned their way into the home of a collector in Sussex, UK.  The paintings were brought to the US and sold through Sloan’s & Kenyon, a Washington D.C. auction house. Having already been sold (one several times over),

Chris Marinello tracked down the buyers and obtained their agreement to return the paintings to the victim.  Each party in the chain managed to get reimbursed with the auction house taking the final hit and the obligation to seek reimbursement from their consignor.
