Akbar Padamsee Painting Stolen in 1995 is Recovered
Dec 31, 2009
Stolen from a gallery in London, this painting turned up for sale at Christie’s in March of 2009. The Italian consignor had no documentation to support his claim that he acquired the painting in good faith under Italian law. Chris Marinello negotiated an unconditional surrender of the painting to the victim’s insurance company and it was returned to the gallery by December 2009. The gallery subsequently sold the painting at auction in 2010 for over $275,000 (three times the estimate) giving new meaning to the painting’s title. (get it? prophet, profit)
