Giorgio de Chirico
File this one under “never give up”. This Giorgio de Chirico painting was stolen in 1999 in transit from Milan to New York and paid out by an insurance company who then filed a claim to the work. Thirteen years later, it appears for sale, again in Milan, having been acquired a few years earlier from a dealer in Switzerland. Art Recovery International is retained by the Insurer to assert their claim to the painting and prohibit its sale. Despite the unfavourable laws of good faith acquisition in Switzerland and Italy, ARI’s Chris Marinello negotiates a satisfactory and confidential settlement with the attorney for the current possessor.
