Stolen Paul Delvaux Painting Recovered Under Unusual Circumstances

This Delvaux painting was stolen in 1968 in transit from a gallery in New York City. In a highly confidential settlement agreement, negotiated between Christopher A. Marinello and the attorney for the possessor, the painting was sold and the proceeds returned to the insurer.
Marinello physically recovered the painting when it was handed to him from a window of a Mercedes S-type in the middle of 72nd Street in New York City. The painting was rolled up in a black plastic garbage bag.
