George III Sideboard Recovered when Victim Produces Amazing Bit of Evidence

Stolen in 1996 in the UK, this George III sideboard found its way into Gorringes Auction House in 2010. Chris Marinello, working with the Thames Valley Police, recovered this object and negotiated a release with the consignor. Questions over whether this sideboard matched the one that was stolen were dismissed when detailed images showed the matching grain in the wood surface.
The theft victim shut down all debate when he produced the original missing key surround for the sideboard (and key) which had been out for repair at the time the piece was stolen. Never throw anything away…
