Painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Stolen in 1977, is Recovered
Jul 7, 2011
This painting was stolen in 1977 from a gallery in New York City. It found its way into a major auction house in 2011 where it was pulled from the sale after intervention by Chris Marinello. Acting on behalf of the insurer, Marinello reached an agreement with the consignor to the auction house. The auction house accepted that they had some liability having sold the painting to the current consignor many years earlier. A confidential settlement was reached allowing the sale to move forward and the proceeds returned to underwriters.
