Stolen Blanchard

Antoine Blanchard, French, 1910-1988, The Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysee, Paris

This was one of over 3000 paintings stolen from the Arnot Gallery by Louis Edelman in the late 1950s and early 1960s.  We've recovered many of the paintings stolen over the years as they appear for sale at galleries, auctions, or private sales.

The key to these recoveries after 60 years has been the meticulous records kept by the victim and the corresponding file held by the FBI.  Most of the possessors purchased the stolen artwork with no knowledge of the theft but without doing sufficient due diligence.

This painting appeared for sale at auction in New York in March of 2023 when consigned by the estate of a very wealthy hedge fund manager.  Despite “not wanting to sign anything” the estate beneficiaries eventually agreed to release the stolen painting to the Arnot gallery unconditionally.

It is safe to say that over 60 years later, we will never give up the search for these stolen paintings until each and every one has been returned to the rightful owner.
