Two Klee Artworks

“SEIN SCHATTEN” AND “KUNSTREIT” BY PAUL KLEE, STOLEN IN 1988

Interestingly, if you scroll down our Klee recovery from 2010, the two Klee artworks above were part of that same theft from the Marlborough Gallery in NY in 1988.

Now, 13 years later, these two still missing artworks appeared for sale at Christie’s New York having been consigned by an overseas collector. This time, the US Dept. of Justice acted quickly in seizing the two artworks for return to the same Insurer that paid out on the 1988 theft. Christie’s consignor had little choice but to cooperate but hired ARI to successfully recover his purchase price from the lawyer/dealer that sold him the stolen pictures.

As fate would have it, one of the Klee artworks above is entitled Kunstreit, or “Art Dispute”, one that has now been resolved.
